Gold Thumb Jewelry is proud to announce our private collection of South African Diamonds. This collection has been handcrafted for our store by the Meents family in Johannesburg, South Africa. With over 100 years of diamond cutting expertise, they are considered one of the finest cutting houses in the world. This family-owned cutting factory is one of the only 84 sight-holders in the world to receive diamonds from the Diamond Trading Company, the world’s largest rough diamond mining and marketing company. The Meents family factory cuts a limited production of exquisite diamonds for a select group of independent jewelers in the United States.

Every diamond in our private collection of South African Diamonds is handcrafted in the Old World tradition for exceptional beauty and value. Each rough diamond crystal is individually evaluated to determine the best way for the cutter’s artistry to release the fashioned diamond’s most dazzling beauty. Every diamond is finished by hand to achieve its superior brilliance. Each diamond is inspected personally by the Meents family to insure that it meets their standards for impeccable craftsmanship. This attention to detail is why Gold Thumb Jewelry is proud to offer this private collection to our customers.

Our private collection of South African Diamonds is laser inscribe with the cutter’s hallmark and a unique security code for greater protection and peace of mind for our customers. This private collection comes with a written guarantee that each diamond is natural, untreated and was produced in an environmentally friendly and ethical manner. A special registration passport folder accompanies every diamond and includes the diamond’s documentation and a CD Rom with the fascinating history of this collection.

Our Merchandise

Diamonds
We offer a complete selection of loose and mounted diamonds, including engagement rings, anniversary rings, wedding bands, earrings, bracelets, pendants, and necklaces. All of our diamonds come from the world’s leading diamond cutters in South Africa, New York, Antwerp Belgium, and Israel. We purchase diamonds directly from diamond cutters eliminating middlemen, enabling us to offer a better diamond. AGS, GIA and EGL gem labs independently certify most of our diamonds. Our certified diamonds have the certificate number and either the South African diamond logo or the Gold Thumb Jewelry logo branded on the girdle. The branding is done with a laser engraver, which is only viewable under 10X magnification. We specialize in fine make and ideal make diamonds.

Bridal Jewelry
We carry the latest styles of bridal jewelry from the finest manufacturers. We carry Lieberfarb, Benchmark, Jabel, Novell, and our own store brand of fine platinum and karat gold wedding bands and mountings. Click on the links to view some of the designs by these manufacturers.

Exotic Colored Gemstones
Sapphires, rubies, emeralds, tanzanite, aquamarine, blue topaz, garnet, tourmaline…too many to list. Exotic colored gemstones are our passion. We have a vast inventory of rare gemstones for use in creating one-of-a-kind pieces, as well as many finished rings, pendants, earrings, and bracelets.

Gold Thumb Jewelry Creations is a full service jeweler.

Repairs & Custom Orders
We have a complete workshop in our store, where our jewelers specialize in unique one-of-a-kind creations. Our jewelers are Bertram Edmonston III (the father) and Albert J. Edmonston (the son, AJ). Bert has over thirty years of experience at the bench. AJ, our apprentice jeweler, works under close tutelage of the master. Bert and AJ are able to create any project that we can design. They repair jewelry using the highest quality components, materials, and craftsmanship, enhancing the enjoyment of your jewelry. Our jewelers work in platinum, gold, and sterling silver. Our jewelers use classic old world craftsmanship and modern techniques to make the jewelry of your dreams come alive.

All of our repairs and custom orders are made on the premises in a timely manner.

Restorations
Have you inherited an heirloom? Does it need restoration? At Gold Thumb Bert’s expertise from over thirty years experience allows him to restore even the most fragile designs to wearable condition.

Finger mate
Finger Mate hinged shanks open wide to go over an enlarged knuckle easily, then close and lock securely for a safe and comfortable fit. No more twisting and turning. No more forcing rings on and off. Finger mate shanks are available in a wide variety of widths, styles and all finger sizes, in 14K yellow or white gold and platinum, to replace the conventional shanks of lady’s rings.

Silversmith
Bert III originally began as a silversmith at Samuel Kirk & Sons of Baltimore, MD. Bert expertly repairs broken sterling silver and silver plated flatware and hollowware. Also Bert takes special commissions for silver hollowware items, such as cups, chalices, bowls, and candlesticks. We have a company which can re-plate your silver plated wares, restoring its original shine.

Appraisals
We have an appraisal service. Our GIA (Gemological Institute of America) trained gemologists, Bert III and Bert IV, can evaluate your jewelry for either insurance replacement or estate purposes. Each appraisal includes a report with complete details and a photograph of each item. Our gem lab has the finest equipment enabling us to identify and evaluate even the most intricate, ornate jewelry.

Engraving
We engrave our own merchandise, including gold and silver jewelry and our sterling silver, silver plated, and pewter giftware items.

Pearl and Bead Stringing
We string pearls and beads. We can create a new design or restore your current treasure of the sea.
