Meet Our Staff

Bert Edmonston III is the CEO and founder of Gold Thumb Jewelry. In the early 1970’s Bert began working as an apprentice silversmith at Samuel Kirk & Sons in Baltimore, MD. At Kirk’s Bert learned the art of manufacturing silver hollowware and flatware, and how to repair these items. He moved on to other jewelers where he learned from master craftsman the old world style of jewelry repair and creations. As Bert developed a family, he realized he needed to start a business of his own. In 1979 Bert moved to Frederick and opened Gold Thumb Jewelry Creations. Gold Thumb Jewelry Creations originally began as a trade shop, the wholesale business for jewelry repairs. Gold Thumb grew with the times as did Frederick. Bert is a GIA (Gemological Institute of America) trained gemologist and IJO (Independent Jewelers Organization) master gemologist and jeweler. Bert has over thirty years experience as a jeweler.
