5 Engagement Ring Trends to Look For in 2018

Wedding style evolves each year. Dresses, color schemes, and decor seem to be on a never-ending cycle of change. The style of engagement rings is no exception to this evolution. Here are 5 engagement ring trends to look for in 2018:

Open Rings

Instead of a traditional closed-circle ring, many are opting for open engagement rings. These rings usually come with at least one stone on each side of an empty span in the middle. This allows for an almost mix-and-match feel to a ring, great for those brides-to-be who like unique stones and lots of color. Some buyers do go for diamonds on both sides, but the color combinations really are limited only by your imagination with this style.

Unique Stone Shapes

Traditional round- or princess-cut diamonds aren’t going anywhere, but more and more brides-to-be are choosing unique stone shapes. Pear-cut diamonds are increasingly popular, with many feeling the larger cut at the rounded end shows off the other features of the chosen stone. Also on the rise are shield-cut diamonds. Though shield-cut diamonds have been used as side stones, where the wide end is fitted in against the center stone, they are moving more toward being the star of the show for anyone wanting a unique, fresh look.

Colored Stones

Diamonds aren’t the only stones found in today’s engagement rings. Many couples are choosing a little extra color with birthstones or stones in a favorite color as either the main stone or accent stones. Some brides even choose to carry the colors from their engagement ring into their wedding dress and overall wedding color scheme. Frequent pairings include peach stones in rose gold settings, pink stones in yellow gold settings, and blue stones in platinum settings.

Rose Gold

Though yellow and white gold, as well as platinum, are here to stay, many jewelers are seeing an uptick in requests for rose gold settings for engagement rings. The soft, romantic hue of this metal gives off an elegant and vintage vibe, something very popular for many brides today. Celebrity love for rose gold have also helped boost its popularity, with TV personality and fashionista Lauren Conrad counted among the ranks of the rose gold evangelists.

Horizontal Settings

Even traditional stone shapes are getting an upgrade for 2018. Popular cuts such as emerald, marquis, and cushion are being rotated 90 degrees in their typical settings to horizontal. This allows a couple to choose a traditional shape but give the ring a unique, interesting twist.
